June & July Scrapbooking Make 'n Takes

I will be hosting a Scrapbooking Make-n-Take Workshop (aka Workshop-on-the-Go) on Saturday, June 19th from 3 p.m. until about 6 p.m.  The cost of the Cherry-O Basic Kit is $29.95 and includes a Level 2 paper packet, an exclusive MyAcrylix "Bowl of Cherries" stamp set, a mini-medlies tulip (embellishment) collection, and a full-color Workshop Guide.  Purchase the "Best" upgrade for $7.90 and receive Colonial White Designer Brads and Chocolate Waxy Flax.  (Both sample layouts are made with the "Best" option.)

We will cut the pieces to make "A Sweet Life" during the workshop, then we will make the "Life is SWEET with U in it." layout from start to finish.  When you are done, you will have a completed 2 page 12x12 layout, the materials ready to assemble another 2 page 12x12 layout and lots of paper and embellishments left to put together more layouts or cards.

The goal is to make this a monthly workshop club in which 10 club members will rotate as hostess and enjoy the benefits of free and discounted products at least once a year.  If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please feel free to email me.  You can also RSVP at www.meetup.com/Brevard-County-Scrapbooking-and-Stamping-Meetup-Group. If you are not prepared to commit to a club, you are still welcome to attend on a month-to-month basis.

The Scrapbook Expo was fun!

When my friend and I decided to go, my plan was to attend the Friday crop from 8 a.m. until midnight, with a little shopping in between, and just "hang out" on Saturday while my friend attended two Saturday classes.  However, as the Friday crop was coming to a close and I needed something to do on Saturday for about six hours, and I didn't want the crop time to end, I decided to purchase a Saturday crop ticket.  (I also figured it would still be cheaper than shopping.)  To make a long story short, when my friend was done with her classes, I talked her into purchasing an evening crop ticket and we stayed until 11:30.  The Gaylord Palms is beautiful, but their hospitality and attention to details (regarding the crop), left a lot to be desired.  When we walked into the crop room (which by the way, was about as far from the parking lot as possible), it was a stripped down banquet room.  It felt like a warehouse.  There was no carpet and the ceiling was the raw structure.  In other words, there weren't any drop ceilings with beautiful chandeliers, which I had imagined there would be.  It made all the sounds echo and made it almost impossible to understand any announcements.  The tables were meeting tables, not banquet, so they were only about 12 inches deep AND they were not covered.  The "wood" was splintered and beat up.  Thankfully I had brought my large cutting mat to work on.  Fortunately, with good friends, scrappin' and some new goodies, we still had a blast.  It only makes me look forward to SDV (Scrapper's Dream Vacation), held at the Contemporary at Disney.  Now they know how to do it right.

On A New Venture

Well, as you can see from past posts...it's been awhile.  Life got in the way.  It got so in the way that I stopped making time to be creative.  I think I paid for it.  Creativity is theraputic for me and I had forgotten that.  But somehow, in the last year, I rediscovered that fact.  Gradually, I started making more and more time for myself to scrap and make cards.

As a teacher, I usually look forward to summer.  This year was no exception.  Even though I love my students and my career, it takes a lot out of me and I need to recover.  The last two or three summers, I spent a ton of time on eBay selling off supplies to earn some extra money.  However, this year I wanted to do something fun.  Off and on over ten years, I considered joining Close To My Heart.  Again, life got in the way.  Well, at a crop on National Scrapbook Day, I ran into my CTMH consultant that I hadn't seen in nearly a year and before that I hadn't seen her in probably five or more years.  She gave me a catalog that evening and I was stunned at how much their products had changed over the years.  I couldn't find a page that didn't have something on it that I wanted.  I finally decided that this was it.  I wanted something fun and this was it.  Many years ago, I used to teach scrapbooking and stamping and I had absolutely loved it.  This would enable me to do that and on my time.  If I made a little extra money, great.  If not, as long as I wasn't losing money, I was okay with that.  So here I am....an independent Close To My Heart consultant.  Ready to have fun!

I've decided that I want to have a crop at my home for people wanting to get together to scrap and try and start a monthly scrapbook and card making club.  My home is pretty humble, but I still think it would be fun.  There's that word again...fun.  That's right, "Girls Just Want to Have Fun!"
