It's another H2H Challenge

This week over at the Heart 2 Heart, the challenge is to create something for Mother's Day.

This challenge is both a difficult challenge and an easy one for me.  Let me explain.  First, due to my spiritual beliefs, I don't celebrate holidays.  However, it's also a little difficult, because I've always had a very tumultuous relationship with my (birth) mother.  To keep a very long story short, she disappeared from my life for about 18 years.  After coming back into my life for a period of time, I made the decision to forgo any relationship with her.  It was a matter of asking myself the question, "What does she add to my life?"  When I answered, "Tears, hurt and pain.", I knew what decision I needed to make.  The woman that I consider my mother is my paternal grandmother.  She raised my brother and I, and thanks to her (and my Papa), we had a wonderful life.  Unfortunately, she passed away in 2006 and I still miss her terribly.

Despite these things, God blessed me with a wonderful mother figure.  My mother-in-law.  She's a special, special woman and I am so grateful that she is in my life.  I know a lot of women who complain about their mother-in-laws, but you won't hear me complain...ever...other than she needs to rest more often.  Put it this way.  I told my husband that if something was to happen to his dad, that I would welcome his mother to come live with us.  You don't do that if you don't like your mother-in-law. ;)

At any rate, for this challenge, I thought of her.  She loves pictures of her grandkids and often complains that I don't give her enough (and she's right).  Last week, I went to a crop and one of the vendors was selling wood cubes with essentially a large paper clip sticking out of the center.  I decided to alter it and create a gift for my mother-in-law to put on her night stand.

Here is my altered creation, in honor of my mother-in-law.  What do you think?

CTMH Supplies Used:
Paper: Fluorentine B&T
Embellishments: Sparkles FlourishesBohemian Assortment, Stardust Glitz Glitter GelColor-ready Seam Binding, Designer Ribbon Green Collection, Creme Brulee Ribbon  Rounds (retired), Polka Dot Sheer Ribbon (unknown)
Non-CTMH Supplies Used:
ATG Adhesive (Scotch)

To play along, all you have to do is 1) use mostly CTMH products and 2) link your project back to Heart 2 Heart from your blog post or online gallery.  If you are linking from a blog, you must link directly to the actual post, not your entire blog.  You also need to mention H2H in your blog post.  Finally, we do ask that you consider turning off word verification, as it does make it easier for the design team to leave comments, as well as visitors to your blog. ;)

Don't have any CTMH products?  That's an easy fix!  Simply contact your local CTMH consultant (or go here to find one near you) or you can place an order by going to my website.

Now it's your turn.  I can't wait to what you come up with.

Until next time...

  1. What a beautiful gift and even more special knowing the story behind it.

  2. Beautiful! I'm sure your MIL will love this special piece. It's just right for holding the latest picture of her grand babies!

  3. Super cute Tamytha!!! I'm sure she will love it!

  4. I too share your feelings and beliefs, Sister Jenkins, both spiritually and toward MIL's. I loved my MIL more than my own mom as well. She fell asleep in death back in 1993, but I still think of her often. So glad we have the hope of the future!

I would have loved to make something beautiful like your picture holder for her. I LOVE the Florentine pp, and I'm sure your MIL will treasure it. :)

  5. Your cube is absolutely gorgeous, and I know your MIL will love it. How could she not with those two cuties on top? In sharing your story, you provide inspiration to a lot of women out there who may not realize how blessed they truly are by their MIL. (Mine too is a blessing to me!)

I appreciate you taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It means a lot to me. :) Thank you!
