A Farewell to the 2016 Holiday Expressions Idea Book

At the time of this post, there are only 2 weeks...that's 14 days...or 336 hours...or 20,160 minutes before the 2016 Close To My Heart Holiday Expressions Idea Book retires.  Most items will be retiring for good...never to be seen again.  In fact, the Snowflake Thin Cuts and the City Sidewalks Digital Cricut Collection have already sold out and there will surely be other items that don't survive until December 31st.  We may get lucky and find some favorites in the Clearance section in the weeks and months ahead...but there's no guarantee. With that in mind, I'm not risking it.  I'm going to grab more of my favorite paper collection, Oh Deer! and some items that I've yet to purchase, like the Autumn Wishes stamp set and a Thinking of You Cardmaking Kit. If you haven't given the CTMH Holiday Expressions book a glance lately, I suggest you do so sooner, rather than later.

To help make it easy (and hopefully a little enjoyable), I've made a little video that highlights the items that are in the book and are retiring.  You can also view the online catalog here. So take a look and see if there's anything you can't live without. ;)

If you would like to purchase any of these items, or any other CTMH products, please head on over to my website, paperheartist.ctmh.com. I would appreciate your support! :)

Happy shopping!

Oh Deer! 8-Page Workshop

I have created four layouts using Oh Deer! Workshop Your Way. A couple of the layouts are based on layouts offered by Close To My Heart...with my own twist, of course, and the other two are all mine. I wanted to play off the gold and silver that the complements contained, by adding silver and gold foil tape. It's the perfect complement to this collection.  I also wanted to demonstrate a few techniques, so continuing with the gold and silver theme, I added embossing to a couple of layouts, paper tearing and sanding.

I still have three full sheets of pattern paper left, which will drive me NUTS! LOL So there's a very good possibility that there could be another project before my workshop rolls around.

But for now, here are the four layouts that we will be making on January 7th.

LAYOUT #1 - Delight In this layout we will be doing a little stamping and heat embossing.
Here you can see the gold embossing. Such a great touch, I think. How perfect is this mini stamp with this paper line? Can you believe that stamp is only $2.95?!

LAYOUT #2 - Joy In this layout, we're going to combine paper tearing and embossing with gold AND silver. :)
I didn't want the layout to be specifically for Christmas, so I camouflaged it with silver foil tape and the pine cones. However, you could leave off the foil tape and lower the pine cones if you wanted.  The full sentiment reads, "Joy of the Season".
Here's a perfect picture of the paper tearing and embossing of both gold and silver. Love it!
LAYOUT #3 - Simple Pleasures Keeping this one simple, but oh, so pretty (if I say so myself). Using the gold and silver foil tape to play of the gold and silver foil in the Complements. Notice too, the flexible theme. It definitely could be used for holiday photos if you wanted, but this could be used for photos from any time of the year.
Honestly, one of my go-to techniques is to use foam tape to add dimension. You can take pretty much any sticker, add foam tape, brush on baby powder to neutralize the exposed adhesive, remove the backing on the foam tape and VOILA, instant dimension and interest! I have to say, too, that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Close To My Heart's foam tape. It's now offered in two thicknesses, thin and regular. But my favorite thing about CTMH's dimensional adhesive is that it is on a roll, so I can cut it to any size I want, even cutting it down the middle to make thin strips. The fact that it is on a roll makes it the perfect adhesive for making shakers, because you can cut it so there are no gaps. Even the finest of glitter won't leak out. See what I mean in the project I shared here.
See that wood grain star? That's part of the Oh Deer! assortment. They are made of bamboo!
This is one of the 18 Picture My Life cards that come in the paper pack. Just an example of how you can utilize these cards for traditional scrapbooking.
This picture is perfect for showing just how perfect the gold and silver foil play off of the Oh Deer! complements.
LAYOUT #4 - Winter Wonderland  Using the Flower Market Cricut collection to create the die cuts for this layout and we will be sanding the white core cardstock to create the look of snow. Cool, huh? (No pun intended.)
This layout also uses a touch of White and Sea Glass Glitter paper, along with the option of using the shimmer pen on the title.

Would you like to make these layouts? There's several ways...

    Swan Lake 12-Page Scrapbook Workshop

December's workshop layouts are finally completed! Woohoo!  The workshop features one of the paper collections from the current Seasonal Expressions Idea Book, called Swan Lake. It's this year's fall/thanksgiving collection, but I think it's versatile enough that it could be used for many, many themes.

Did you know that Close To My Heart offers scrapbook kits called "Workshop Your Way"? The kits are complete with a full paper pack, full complements pack and a couple of full embellishments, like enamel gems, ribbon, etc. and extra cardstock.  But that's not all.  CTMH's art department creates three layouts and bonus projects, like cards, and offers the cutting guide and instructions as a free download from your consultant's website.
So this is exactly how I started the workshop. I created the three layouts offered by CTMH...making some adjustments here and there. Like this...

    CTMH's layout...
My version (the colors are truer in the CTMH photo)...

Then I just kept going with the supplies that I had remaining. Workshops Your Way are chock full of product!  I don't know about you, but I go to expo's every year, shop at retreats and shop online for scrapbook kits and they range anywhere from about $10 for very basic kits (cardstock only and no embellishments) to as high as $25-26 for higher content kits (pattern papers, dies, embellishments, etc.).  If all you created were the three two-page layouts designed by Close To My Heart, that would only be about $10 per fully-embellished layout!  But throw in a few extra pieces of cardstock and BAM...the value jumps even more.  Even with the few extras that I have thrown in to my workshop kit, each layout is less than $6!!  Seriously! SIX DOLLARS PER TWO-PAGE LAYOUT!  I don't know of any other company that offers such value.

So here are all six layouts in a little more detail...

    LAYOUT #1 - Hello Love
    LAYOUT #2 - Family
LAYOUT #3 - Give Thanks (Not shown, but this layout will include one Pocket Plus Memory Protector.
LAYOUT #4 - Blessed...learn how to create faux stitching using our white core cardstock.
    LAYOUT #5 - Gratitude
BONUS LAYOUT #6 - Full of Thanks. This layout features cuts from the Close To My Heart "Flower Market" Cricut Collection (both physical cartridge and digital collection available), plus some extra pattern paper and is a bonus for purchasing this month's workshop kit.  It will be precut and ready to assemble!  NOTE: for those of you who made this at the Scrap Central Scrapbook Retreat earlier this month, I gotcha! I will have alternative Cricut cuts for you, so you aren't missing out.

Would you like to make these layouts? There's several ways...

June's Stamp of the Month..."The Long Way Home"

Welcome to the CTMH Stamp of the Month Blog Hop!
June 2016's Stamp of the Month is called.....
    ****The Long Way Home****

With almost 30 participants in this blog hop, you are sure to find lots of wonderful ideas on using Close To My Heart's June Stamp of the Month.  The hop makes a circle, so if you are starting here just continue until you make your way back and you will have made it through them all. If you have already started and are coming from Michele Rowley's blog, "Evergreen Memories", then you are on the right track.

When I got this stamp set I knew that it would be perfect for the pictures of my trip to Key West last summer with my best friend.  My colors were inspired by one of our newest paper collections called Calypso...perfect for South Florida pictures. Finally, my layout was based on a sketch in Close To My Heart's "Make It From Your Heart" Volume 2 Sketch Book. Now, just to get my pictures developed.

Supplies used (all CTMH unless otherwise noted):
Stamps Used: The Long Way Home June SOTM
Papers: Calypso B&T, Pixie CS, Honey CS, Canary CS, White Daisy CS, Lagoon CS
Inks: Black, Lagoon, Cotton Candy, Sorbet, Pixie, Whisper, Thistle, Pear, Honey
Emellishments: Pnk, Teal and Black Shimmer Trim, Calypso Sequins, Silver Sequins, Mini Staples
Markers: Black Journal Pen, Silver Metallic Marker, Shin Han Warm Grey 4, Golden Yellow and Colorless Blender
Other: Mini Stapler, Thin 3D Foam Tape, Microtip Scissors, Glue Pen, Paper Trimmer (Fiskars), ATG Adhesive (Scotch)

Welcome to CTMH Stamp of Month Blog Hop

Welcome to the CTMH Stamp of the Month Blog Hop!
April 2016's Stamp of the Month is called.....
    ****Life in Pictures****

With almost 30 participants in this blog hop, you are sure to find lots of wonderful ideas on using Close To My Heart's April Stamp of the Month.  The hop makes a circle, so if you are starting here just continue until you make your way back and you will have made it through them all. If you have already started and are coming from Donna Digby's blog, "Dat's My Style", then you are on the right track.

I love this month's stamp set! There's just something about vintage cameras. I had planned on making a card, but this week I went to Disney with my nieces.  It was my first time meeting them and their first time at Disney. It was the best day ever!  I then found this layout saved on one of my Pinterest boards and knew that I wanted to do a take on it.  I still need to print the photos, but I'll included it below when...and if...I get permission from my sister-in-law to post it here (so you can see how cute they are). :)  I went ahead and stamped the "You've captured my Heart" in two places, but will probably change that when I go to put the photo on. Probably with some journaling.  I still feel like something's missing (besides the photo), but otherwise, I like how it turned out.

Supplies used (all CTMH unless otherwise noted):
Stamps Used: Life in Picturess SOTM, Reel Life
Papers: Zoe B&T, La Vie En Rose B&T, Charlotte B&T, Silver Glitter
    Inks: Black
    Emellishments: Playful Puffies
Other: Cricut Artistry, Watercolor Penvils, 3D Foam Tape, Microtip Scissors, Paper Trimmer (Fiskars), ATG Adhesive (Scotch)
